Under this work area ENCISS focuses on building on existing structures and mechanisms for conflict resolution at community levels. The aim is to build models for conflict prevention, encouraging people in communities to deal with potential conflicts before they get out of control, or have to be taken to the authorities for resolution. Over the years ENCISS has found the area of social justice to be of high importance in communities. Chiefs are often unaware of the law and implement punitive systems which contravene people’s rights. Equally, people find ways to circumvent the law. In many communities there is absolute breakdown in law and order and political tensions which threaten social stability. ENCISS facilitates dialogue to build trust and cohesion within communities.
